Let's REALLY keep in touch!!
A couple months back, a couple of our classmates took a look at the website and told me "it COULD be better." What we need, they said, is a way to enable the members of our class to keep in touch, to update the rest of us on how their lives have gone since 1974, and how they're going now. The one who really challenged me to get off my butt and do this was BRIAN CASEY.
Brian suggested Facebook. I have a Facebook account, but for my purposes MySpace has been more useful in the past. The more I looked at it, the more I realized that, if we all used Facebook, we could fulfill Brian's dream.
So we created the Dowling Class of '74 Facebook group, and people started joining. We also created an event page for the Reunion, and people signed on to that.
What baffles me, however, is that, after all this hard work, BRIAN CASEY to this date STILL hasn't joined the Dowling Class of '74 group!!
What we need to do now is to bring the Facebook group to life. It's up to YOU!!
This is what YOU should do.
1. First and foremost, we need everybody to be on Facebook. If you don't have a Facebook account, go to www.Facebook.com and set one up. It's so easy. Make sure, when you fill out your profile, you report that you are a 1974 graduate of Dowling High School (or as they now refer to it, Dowling CATHOLIC High School). That's not the same as joining the Class of 1974 facebook group, but it allows other 1974 class members to reach you. And by clicking on the Dowling Class of 1974 link on your bio, you can locate all the other classmates who are on Facebook.
2. Now, JOIN the Dowling Class of '74 group. You can get to that in a number of ways. One way is to link up to the Facebook page of a classmate who is in the group. My Facebook page, for example, is www.facebook.com/people/B-John-Burns/769458990. Go to my profile. Look under my groups. Hit the link to Dowling Class of '74 to pull up the group page. And JOIN!!
3. Network with as many classmates as you can. Look at the friends list of any classmate. Find the ones you know and request to be their friend.
4. If you know someone from our class who's not on Facebook, HOLD A GUN TO THEIR HEAD and get them to join. WE NEED EVERYBODY.
5. NOW THAT YOU'RE IN THE GROUP, download the pictures of your children, the vacation videos, any non-copyrighted materials you want to share with the rest of us. Start discussons. USE THE PAGE
6. And FINALLY, everybody contact Brian Casey and tell him to get with the program!!
